“Dhigufaru Island Resort” being developed in the island of Dhigufaruvinagandu in Baa atoll is to be unveiled August 15.


The resort situated in Baa atoll’s UNESCO Biosphere features 30 beach villas and 10 semi villas.


It is the first resort to be developed by Dhigufaru Investment Pvt Ltd of which local firm Static Company Pvt Ltd is a shareholder. With the opening of the resort, the company will also be inaugurating its luxury yacht “Dhainkamba”.


Dhigufaru (long reef) is the namesake of the long stretch of reef amidst which the island rests, boasting a sizeable lagoon. It is situated a 45-minute flight from Ibrahim Nasir International Airport.


The resort features three restaurants offering a range of cuisines from across the world and a special bar named “Thundi Pool Bar”. Dhigufaru also offers spa services with its “Funa Spa” and other facilities such a diving school, fishing trips, dolphin spotting and picnics to Dhonveli Finolhu according to the resort’s website.


Baa atoll currently has ten luxury resorts. The newest addition is the five-star “Finolhu”, developed in the island of Kanifushi, with three more resorts to be opened in the atoll.

MTDC have said that the first resort in Hdh atoll will open next year. The resort is being made in Hdh Naagoshi.

The MD of MTDC have said that، developing this resort his a high priority project for MTDC. MD Niyaz also said that، among the islands subleased by MTDC، the resort in Naagoshi is the one with most number of beds. He further said that there was a delay in developing the resort because there were some financial difficulties at first. However now all funding needed for the project has been secured.


MTDC says that they aim top open the resort as soon as possible.

Maldives to lease islands in two atolls

Maldives government has announced to lease a number of islands in the atolls of Baa and Alif Dhaalu.

In a notice, the fisheries ministry listed Veyofushi and Hirundhoo in Baa atoll, and Hiyafushi and Kudadhoo in Alif Dhaalu atoll to be put up for lease (Varuva).


The ministry stated that interested leasers may submit their bid applications by August 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on working days. Bid applications are sold at the ministry at a rate of MVR 20.


Islands put up for lease (Varuva) are those selected from islands under the fisheries ministry’s management.


The maximum lease period for islands put up for Varuva is 10 years.
